How to is a section where we share practical tips and information to our clients.
Here is a Glossary of Photographic Terms that might help with some of our "Photo Geek" talk.

For our film customers, these files help explain how to crop negs.

If you're working with PhotoShop, here is a link to a series of Actions to help you adjust color, density and contrast quickly. You're welcome to download (right-click or control-click and save linked file) the Actions for free. Move them to your PhotoShop folder. Then Go to Window > Actions and Load the Actions.

If you'd like your monitor to display images that look close to our Lab output, here are some steps to get there. First, set your Monitor as per the Monitor Color pdf.

Next, adjust your PhotoShop Color Settings as described in the Color Settings pdf.

Now, download our (new) Test File (right-click or control-click and save linked file) and Open it in PhotoShop. Contact us for an Output print of the Sample File.

Then, download (right-click or control-click and save linked file) our Output Profile (SilvanoMaster2008.icm). If, after you've downloaded it, the file has .html at the end of the file name, please rename the file, getting rid of the .html. Put this file where you keep ICC Profiles in your system (For example, on a PC this might be My Computer > C > WINNT > system32 > spool > drivers > color. On a Mac, you might use HD > Library > ColorSync > Profiles).

In PhotoShop (CS2 or CS3), View > Proof Setup > Custom. For the Device to Simulate, choose RP30_Ultra_v7. Rendering Intent is Perceptual. Click the Preview On and Off . You should see the more saturated colors with less saturation. This approximates the gamut of Photographic paper. Click OK to save your settings. If our Sample File loooks close to our Sample Print you should be good to go.

For those of you that prefer to use our FTP Server instead of our S.O.S. program, its important to set up your files before sending your order (This is not necessary with S.O.S.). Here's how.

Here is a copy of a pdf we used at the April 19th 2007 Open House, outlining some different methods of Sharpening images.
